DETROIT (August 1, 2024) – In early August, Acting Under Secretary of Commerce for the Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA) Eric Morrissette traveled to Detroit, Michigan to convene a panel on community investment intended to illuminate contracts and resources available to help minority business enterprises (MBEs) grow and scale.
Entitled Investing in Our Communities, the Acting Under Secretary’s panel included a briefing and discussion which brought senior government officials, industry leaders, and minority business enterprises together to discuss five major issues: contract opportunities and resources available through the federal government, investing in our communities, access to capital, access to contracts, and U.S. global competitiveness.
This event represents an opportunity to promote the national network of MBDA business centers, programs and initiatives, its vision, mission, and is a continuation of similar efforts in Miami, Florida this past June.
“At MBDA, our priority continues to be creating economic opportunity for minority business enterprises in communities across the country. With Detroit a hotbed of major economic activity in our nation, the minority business enterprises here are essential players in the United States economic prosperity,” said Acting Under Secretary Eric Morrissette. “The community dialogues we’ve had here are essential to continuing to provide pathways to capital, contracts, and access to new global markets, and I am excited to see the result of our collective work.”
The topics discussed in the roundtable include tips and best practices for securing federal government contracts; navigating the complexities of working with the federal government; advancing public policies that provide pathways to scaling the growth and global competitiveness of MBEs, job creation, and more.
